This is the 1947 Carter City Wildcats of Carter County. That particular year saw the Wildcats go 6-17 under Coach Clarence C. McGlone in his first of three seasons there. The school began play in the 1935-36 season with Raleigh K. Stallard as it’s first coach. They finished at 7-18.
The school closed after the 1968-69 school year. The last game was a 98-51 loss to Sandy Hook in the 62nd District Tournament held at Olive Hill. That loss completed a 3-25 season. The Wildcats best season in wins came in the 1953-54 season under Coach Harold Holbrook when they finished the season with a sparkling 34-5 mark. They made it to the championship game of the 16th Regional Tournament before falling to Ashland 75-58. Jim Kiser was an All State Honorable Mention selection that season, as he had been the previous season.
