Jesse Watts
In 1991 Jesse Watts of Sheldon Clark threw for what was thought to have been a national high school football record. In a game against Allen Central he passed for 651 yards. He completed 24 of 38 passes in a 61-16 victory. That broke the national mark of 636 yards passing by James Hogan, Jr OF Newport News, VA in 1996.
The mark set by Watts stood for 21 years, broken by 1 yard in 2012.
Watts’ yardage was hard to determine from the game film as Allen Central’s yardage lines weren’t present, but Sheldon Clark’s then-coach Jim Mattney had an assistant review film time and again until reaching the exact yardage.
