Parallel: noun – a person or thing that is similar or analogous to another.

Here is an interesting parallel.

1999: Mandy Harmon of Sheldon Clarke was an All State 3rd Team selection.  Her team won their District but lost to Shelby Valley 49-47 in the 15th Regional first round.  That team went 16-8.

Summer Jones of Shelby Valley was an All State Honorable Mention player.  Her team won their District final, defeating Pike County Central 70-68 in double overtime.  They defeated Sheldon Clark, as mentioned, in the first round of the regional tournament, and were defeated by Prestonsburg 52-49 in a semifinal match.  That team finished at 16-9

2000: Mandy Harmon, a 5’10 Junior, was chosen once again to the 3rd Team All State squad.  Sheldon Clark defeated defeated Johnson Central 57-53 to win the district tournament, defeated Elkhorn City and Prestonsburg in the regional, but lost to Shelby Valley in the regional championship game, 59-57.  That team went 24-7.

Summer Jones made the 2nd Team All State squad as a 5’10 junior.  Shelby Valley beat Pikeville 58-45 to win the District.  In the Regional Tournament they defeated Allen Central 80-37, Belfry 53-46, and Sheldon Clark in the championship game (a close 59-57).  In the State Tournament 1st round they were defeated by eventual runner-up Shelby County 53-51.  Jones made the Sweet 16 all-tournament team.  That team went 30-4.

2001: Mandy Harmon made the All State 1st Team as a senior.  They lost to Johnson Central in the District Tournament final.  They then defeated Belfry 89-86 and Prestonsburg 69-59 in the Regional before bowing to Johnson Central in the final 55-51.

Summer Jones made the All State 1st Team as a senior.  Shelby Valley defeated Pikeville 68-39 to win their district tournament.  In Regional Tournament play, Shelby Valley lost to Prestonsburg 57-54 in the first round.

Mandy Harmon completed her high school career with 3280 points from 1998-2001.

Summer Jones completed her high school career with 2851 points from 1997-2001.

Mandy Harmon was picked by the Kentucky basketball coaches as player of the year in the 15th region for 2001 and signed with Morehead State.
